Thank you for your interest in Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center’s Internal Medicine residency program, a collaboration with Health Education Services (ACGME ID: 1402800916/ NRMP Code: 2335140C1).
The Internal Medicine residency is a three-year program designed to train skillful physicians and instill ethical modes of practice within a community hospital setting. Faculty and staff are dedicated to the training of highly skilled and compassionate physicians, capable of thriving in the most demanding clinical and academic environments. We have high expectations of our faculty, nurses, and ancillary staff, and hold our students and residents to these same high standards. We also recognize the important contribution that each one makes to the success of our programs and to the quality of the health care delivered to our patients.
Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center is a full-service medical center that includes two campuses licensed for 410 beds in rural southeast Missouri. We have the only emergency room in the primary service area, four rural health clinics, and stand-alone Imaging and women’s center. We’re also affiliated with Regional Physician Services, a multi-disciplinary group practice with more than 35 physicians with specialties including Cardiology, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Surgery, Pulmonology, Gastroenterology, Wound Care, ENT, etc.
Residents are supported by a range of clinical services, including nurses, phlebotomists, radiology technicians, case managers, pharmacists, allied health professionals, nutritionists, and pastoral care. Residents are exposed to interventional cardiology and radiology, a wide range of orthopedic procedures, and complex medical cases on the hospitalist services.
Our learning environment offers experiences that allow each resident to discover the best in themselves and to become competent, proficient, and professional physicians. Residents will learn from direct patient care, morning report, bedside rounds, and a robust didactic schedule that complements the rotations. Additionally, residents will have an active role in quality improvement committees and patient safety initiatives.
Sincerely,
Matthew Riffle, M.D.
